3D printing flexible solar cell comes out to open a new era of battery era

Recently, the Spanish high-tech company Oxolutia developed Solar Oxides, which is a flexible photovoltaic solar cell that can be manufactured by 3D printing . The material used is mainly conductive oxide, which is non-toxic, stable and low-cost, and is abundant in nature. The company claims that the battery opens the door to an exciting low-cost solar era.

This photovoltaic solar cell is mainly installed on a panel to absorb solar radiation and directly convert it into electrical energy. A more traditional approach is to use monocrystalline silicon, but in contrast, Solar Oxides's raw materials are cheaper and the 3D printing process is less expensive, giving it a greater competitive advantage. It is understood that this technological breakthrough will be a boon for the energy sector. At present, the global demand for environmentally friendly, stable, safe and more energy efficient systems is growing, especially in the mainstream voice of human society, which calls for avoiding the consumption of the earth as much as possible. On the limited natural resources, reduce carbon emissions. And this affordable, 3D-printable solar technology can also be used in other industries, such as transportation, medicine, and telecommunications.

Solar Oxides team

It is understood that Oxolutia is actually spun off from the Institute of Materials Science in Barcelona (ICMAB), its main purpose is to conduct research and bring the processes and materials related to the application of superconducting and nanotechnology to the market. In order to create such a flexible solar cell, the development team mainly relied on 3D inkjet printing technology, which can precisely control the deposition of droplets on the surface of the object, and then the developer combined the chemical solution deposition method to produce the oxide film. They believe that this technology opens up a new avenue for digital manufacturing, gradient materials and 3D printing. In fact, as early as 2013, the development team had already set up a pilot plant, and they expected to have a commercially viable prototype before next year.

Currently, the project has been selected by Repsol as one of the nine winners of the 2015 Repsol Foundation Venture Fund. Repsol is one of the world's largest energy groups and has been committed to renewable energy and environmental protection. Their fund has been in operation for more than three years, and its main purpose is to support entrepreneurs who are committed to improving energy efficiency and developing energy-efficient innovative technologies.

It is reported that four of the nine funded projects are researchers or entrepreneurs from the Esfera UAB-CEI R&D cluster, including Oxolutia. Moreover, they are selected from more than 200 applications, which is not easy. These nine projects will receive a grant of 288,000 euros for up to two years, and will also be assisted by a mentoring team, including training, technical and legal counsel, to enable their technical solutions to enter the market as quickly as possible. . In addition, they will also receive a certain amount of office space at the Repsol Technology Center in Madrid, Spain.
