German scientists create antibacterial packaging

German scientists use pharmaceutical expertise to create antibacterial packaging that can be applied to liquid beverages such as milk. This is an important change in food packaging technology. The food packaging department has always shown a strong interest in antibacterial coating films because it can prevent food molds from occurring without the use of food preservatives. In order to prevent the arrival of bacteria, the use of film-packed foods usually comes with added preservatives such as sorbic acid and benzoic acid. However, consumers want fewer additives in food products as much as possible. This is the direct reason why food manufacturers have a surge in interest in antimicrobial packaging. They hope to make food safer while satisfying consumers' demand for fewer additives. . Researchers at the German processing plant and packaging Fraunhofer Association have found that in order to replace the preservatives in foods, they need to coat the packaging film. This kind of packaging film coating can be realized by using a composite resin and other substances as basic materials and special technologies. Such plastics contain components such as inorganic glass and organic polymers.
