Hot water soluble food packaging materials

A Japanese company has developed a food packaging material that is soluble in hot water, both edible and biodegradable.

This kind of food packaging material is processed from polysaccharides as the main raw material. The polysaccharides, found in natural plants such as seaweeds and seeds, are made up of many monosaccharide molecules. In the manufacture, the polysaccharides are supplemented with additives and processed by the production of a general film. With a little control, 30-70 μm thick membranes or 1-8 mm diameter capsules can be processed. The tensile strength of the film is 250-350 kilograms per square centimeter, which is equivalent to that of a normal polyethylene film.

The food packaging material soluble in hot water also has oil resistance and printability, and is most suitable for packaging of fast food and packaging of medicine. When eating, simply put the packaged food into hot water and eat it together with the packaged food, which is both simple and hygienic. If the packaged material is used to package the frozen food, the packaged frozen food can be put into an electric oven, and after the film is melted, it can be consumed.
