Recycling and using chemical substances from wastewater to achieve waste resources

According to incomplete statistics, at present, China's chemical industry produces more than 10 billion tons of wastewater each year, accounting for more than 20% of the total industrial wastewater discharge in China. Among them, wastewater from the production of pesticides, dyes, pharmaceuticals, and intermediates contains many organic pollutants. Its high concentration, high toxicity, high chroma, high acidity (alkali), high salt content, and difficulty in biodegradation have become recognized problems in the world. The main existing treatment methods for such wastewater include wet oxidation method, extraction method, and dilution biochemical method, but all have their own inadequacies, and it is difficult to achieve the triple unification of environmental benefits, social benefits, and economic benefits.

After more than ten years of research and exploration, Professor Zhang Quanxing of Nanjing University has synthesized a series of ultra-high cross-linked resins with high adsorption capacity, good mechanical strength, polarity and pore size matching with adsorbate molecules, and the performance ranks the international advanced level. "Resin Adsorption" not only has the advantages of wide application range, high adsorption efficiency, long service life, no secondary pollution, etc., but also can recover useful chemical substances from waste water, realize the recycling of wastes, and recover some of the value of the operation cost that can be compensated. There is even a slight surplus. At present, the technology has been successfully applied in 20 industrial projects, reducing the emission of toxic organic matter CODcr by nearly 10,000 tons per year, and saving a total amount of nearly 30 million yuan for polluting enterprises. Due to the practicality and advancement of technology, this technology has won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2001.
