For a long time, due to the small scale of steel drum producers and weak technical strength, most companies use equipment that is relatively backward. Since 1987, with the support of the state, it has introduced 17 automatic seam welding machines from the United States, 1 UK, Italy and Germany, and 4 sets of equipment in the middle of the barrel. The situation of these four sets of equipment is:
1. Guangzhou Liwan Iron and Steel Plant introduced the products of West Germany IMG Company (steel barrel seam welding machine, flattening shearing machine, tensioning and expanding rib two-in-one machine and crimping sealing machine). This equipment is medium level and practical. At present, it has been digested and absorbed by Huicheng General Machinery Factory of Xinhui County, Guanghao Province, and has been introduced to the market.
2. Harbin Metal Container Factory introduced 300 cars per hour from the US Caroline Company, 200 liter steel drum mid-section production line and seam welding machine, and the model is hydraulic transmission. o This set of equipment was completed by Shanghai Electromechanical Equipment Design and Research Institute and has not been scheduled for production.
3. Sinopec's Huadong Company's barrel factory introduced the high-speed production line of the US Calando Company (15 steel drums per minute). The whole line consists of a squeeze edger, an expansion machine and a crimping machine, which are mechanically driven. It has been digested and absorbed by Yingkou Barrel Factory. This equipment is expensive. Due to the small output of most domestic steel drum factories, it is impossible to match them. Even if the manufacturers are introduced, they are still produced by old units, and the foreign equipment is temporarily idle.

1. Mechanical transmission type I 200 liter closed steel barrel production line. This line consists of two units and a front and rear leak tester. 3.200 liter straight open steel barrel middle section production line. It consists of a barrel hoop forming unit (using a coil), a barrel cap reeling machine, and a single head horizontal crimping machine. Reliable operation, stable product quality, low cost and easy maintenance.
4.100 kg medium-speed production line of calcium carbide barrels. It consists of a pull-and-bend two-in-one machine, a corrugator, a crimping machine and a leak tester. The two-in-one machine uses hydraulic transmission. The crimping sealer is a chain conveyor with a double-headed drive type. The electronic control uses PC program control. The production cycle is more than 4 steel drums per minute. This line can be used not only for the production of 100 kg calcium carbide barrels, but also for the production of closed steel drums.

9.200 liter steel drum outer coating production line. Water-soluble paints are used, including pre-treatment, drying, spraying, and curing of steel drums. In addition, Shanghai Mechanical and Electrical Equipment Design and Research Institute can also design various 200-liter steel drum outer coating production lines according to the technical requirements of the users.
In the next few years, the institute intends to focus on the following tasks:
